“If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded” (Matthew 10:42)
Something to think about: I serve god by serving others.
Question to ask yourself:
True servants make themselves available to help, attend to needs, make the most of what they have, devote equal effort to each duty, and are devoted to the task at hand. Which of the five traits of true servants do I find most difficult?
I would think that paying attention to everyone’s demands at the same time is the most difficult of the five criteria for me. I don’t always know or feel what people are thinking, which makes it difficult to determine where someone might need help.
Knowing your form is vital for serving God, but having a servant’s heart is much more important. Real servants make themselves accessible for service.
A servant must constantly be ready for duty. Being a servant is relinquishing control over your schedule and allowing God to interrupt it whenever he sees fit. Real servants prioritize needs. They are continually looking for ways to serve others, and when they identify a need, they embrace the opportunity to fill it.
“Since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christs body, let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be”
-Romans 12:5
Real servants do their best with what they have. They do not create excuses, postpone, or wait for better opportunities. They just carry out their responsibilities. God wants you to serve him with whatever you have, no matter where you are right now. Real servants do every task with equal dedication.
“Found in Colossians 3:23, whatever you do, work at it with your heart, as working for the lord, not for men.“
Jesus specialized in menial duties that everyone else attempted to avoid. Nothing was beneath him since he had come to serve. He accomplished these things not despite his grandeur, but because of it, and he wants us to follow in his footsteps.
“I am a servant of Jesus Christ, and I know that wherever I go, he will direct me to the perfect road. Helping others is simple; what is tough is establishing trust and allowing strangers and individuals you have just met know you are there for them. I can’t emphasize enough how vital it is that God is the only one who has the last word; he has already written out our lives, and it is up to us to live them, inspire others, defend one another, and bring those who do not have Christ in their hearts out of darkness” -JAI Z
