After 53 years, the New York Knicks finally won a championship! Special cheers go out to them. I am genuinely down for New York anything: Yankees, Buffalo Bills, Brooklyn Nets, all of it! Being from Chicago, you can say I basically disowned all my home teams, except the Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Being a sports fanatic is just who I am anyway. I tend to root for the teams that I remember from my childhood, with the New York Knicks being one of them.
The score in the 4th quarter was 93 to 90 with 8.8 seconds left, including an extra point for the Knicks, making the final score 94 to 90.
This took me way back to a moment I had when I was an orphan. Me and all the other kids in the home loved Jordan shoes, and I saved my money for a pair and bought the Retro 4 Jordan Cavs (Knicks colors). Everyone from that day on asked if I was a Knicks fan. I would say, “Yeah, I watch games whenever I can.”
That summer, the Knicks weren’t doing that bad, and I enjoyed watching them while being in the foster care facility. One evening, we were all gathered around the TV watching a game when the television suddenly fell on my foot. OUCH! I screamed and asked for help, but no one came, so I just went to my room, thinking the pain would pass. It didn’t.
Suddenly, I received a phone call on my cellular device. It was my lawyer, Howard Lee. He asked how I was doing, and I told him we were watching the Knicks game and the TV fell on my foot. He asked if anyone had checked on me and taken me to the hospital. I said no, and he immediately stated he would call me back and hung up.
What literally seemed like a few minutes later, staff came rushing in with the EMTs, hauling me off to the hospital, where I was seen by a doctor. He asked if he could cut my shoe off. I screamed, “NO!” He laughed and proceeded to take my shoe off slowly. My foot was swollen, and I needed pain medication and a wrap.
After several days, I was able to remove the foot wrap and wear one of my favorite pairs of sneakers, the Air Jordan Retro 4 Cavs. June 13th, 2026 was a celebratory moment for the city of New York, and I was home cheering them on.
